I wonder if you know that the sunflower is an example of Fibonacci Numbers as they occur in nature? Fibonacci Numbers are a series of numbers in which the next number is the product of the pre- vious two numbers. 1+1=2 1+2=3 2+3=5 3+5=8 5+8=13 8+13=21 etc. The Fibonacci Numbers are: 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89, 144, 233, 377, 610, 987, 1597, 2584, etc. This series of numbers has profound influence in our lives even when we are unaware of them. The golden ratio 1�618034 -- also called the golden section or the golden mean or just the golden number, is used by artists in composition and design. "This series of numbers is often represented by a Greek letter Phi . The closely related value which we write as phi with a small "p" is just the decimal part of Phi, namely 0�618034."* Location Location Fibonacci numbers are found throughout nature in the ratio forming the spirals of sea shells, pine cones. flower petals, leaves on a stem, seed pods, broccoli, cauliflower, pineapple...and of course the sun flower. However, if you find the numbers 1, 2, 3 and 5 occurring somewhere it does not always means the Fibonacci numbers are there (although they could be). Because Fibonacci numbers are related to the spiral I cannot help wondering if the universe is held together by the dynamics of Fibonacci numbers. The numbers are named for the Italian, Leonardo Fibonacci born in Pisa around 1175 AD., who is generally considered the "greatest European mathematician of the middle ages." He popularized the use of the "Hindu- Arabic" system of writing numbers over other systems in use then. If you have not felt unsuccessful in meditation in the past, per- haps the reason is that you have not found your own individual path. Each person seeks their own personal inner path, thus what is the way for one person, cannot be the way for another. In the December, 1986, issue of Kosmon Unity the following article appeared. The author, Frank Morley, was Su'is in Kosmon Church at Walton, England. The arti- cle has been slightly edited for UFK News. Meditation: Orange Flash We all have `gifts of spirit' latent within us, but some are better able to use them than others. Clairvoyance, clear seeing, is probably the easiest to develop, but learning any skill requires much practice. Because there are so many different spheres or levels of life in the higher worlds, we have to learn to concentrate on one vibration in particular, in order to gradually gain knowledge of it. For instance, if we wish to know more about the finer forces that become expressed in our natural world, we must frequently go out into nature...the countryside, a park, by a stream or the beach where we can be close to the natural world...where we can pray or meditate in a serene environment. Then when we have found a quiet place within, we focus the inner eye upon the forms around us to see the "spirit witin." Probably, the first thing seen is a layer of light which is a nie-green color, ab out two inches above the ground all around. The layer will be about one inch thick, and may run up the trunks of trees and the larger plants. This is the life-force of the Creator's Presence. Just above or within the green, it will be posble to eventually see the violet light, usually in continuous vibration, without which plants would cease to exist because it transforms and fixes the green ray as it produces its physical forms. In the higher worlds, light and life are two manifestations of the same thing. When we speak of spiritual rays, we are thinking of something that has life as well as color. One of the most vital rays-- yet difficult to see and experience--is the orang ray, because it is seen only in rare flashes. It is the great awakener (the Power of Eolin) that comes to awaken the seeds of plants and all other living creatures, the influence which awakens in the spring all that has been sleeping in the winter. Only after the orange flash can the green ray begin its work. The reason why so many creatures rest in a reclining posture is to allow the green ray to flow through the body--usually from feet to head. As you meditate in nature, you will learn to see and experience the rainbow of colors which are present. One day you may see the orange flash awakening the earth and all the plants living within the earth. And the, perhaps, one day, you will yourself experience the orange flash. It will bring you a new awakening or Oneness with the Divine. Universal Faithists of Kosmon Bi-monthly Board of Trustees Meeting 12/27/2009 Teleconference, 2:31pm MDT MINUTES Meeting called to order at 2:31pm, MDT, by President Toni Vastinar. He welcomed all members able to attend considering the adverse weather conditions. He further commented that there are two differing opinions as to when the New Year occurs, (depending upon which edition of Oahspe is referred to) but wishes everyone for the winter solstice a "good New Year"! He also said as we go forth, "we learn by doing and growing" Present: Carl Vostatek, Toni Vastinar, Peter Hartgens, Susan Griffin, Megan Phillips and Glenn Kendall. Joan Greer absent. A quorum was present. There were no guests. An opening prayer was offered by Peter, followed by a mo- ment of silent reflection. Moved by Carl and seconded by Susan that the minutes of the previous meeting be approved with no additions or corrections. Mo- tion carried. Reports Treasurer's Report- Susan submitted the following financial report: $12,450.92 in bank checking account as of December 22, 2009; $4,899.85 in Building Fund savings account; 5,208.44 and $17,272.35 in CDs Committee Reports Outreach/membership- Joan Greer (absent) With Joan ab- sent, there was no report. Toni did mention he has been getting copies of the yahoo forum posts (from Erma Jean Lee) and has thereby been keeping abreast of goings on in these venues. The Molina Center- Megan Phillips, Director: Megan reports she had prepared and submitted a grant application (due 12/15/09) to the EPA for $50,000, mostly to be used for staff funding for next summer's classes. Grant funding is available under the EPA's "Environmental Education" bill. A draft had been sent to Carl for review before submittal. Copies had also been sent to Board mem- bers, all of whom complimented Megan on a job well done. Much of the information for the grant was pulled from the Business Plan Me- gan has underway, and based on what the Board saw, the Business Plan will be very acceptable. Discussion followed regarding how this was applicable to Megan's deliverables per our agreement. She said payment of this deliverable could be made along with the Busi- ness Plan deliverable, when it is completed. A $17,000 match would be required on our part, but Megan says this, too, could be available from other grant sources. We should have an answer to the EPA grant award In February. Megan also discovered the Plateau Valley School has grants up to $5,000 available (in conjunction with the El Pomar Foundation) for environmental awareness in the community. She will apply for $500 to be used as a scholarship for a community member to attend one of our classes. The Board felt this was an excellent opportunity for TMC to become known in the community and as a means to es- tablish community ties. TMC Facilities - Carl Vostatek: Carl reports that the well has still not been drilled (much to his dismay). A series of postpone- ments by the driller followed by the onset of winter has curtailed drilling until the spring thaw has occurred in that it is too risky to drive the drill rig on the steep, frozen slopes accessing the well site. Carl went ahead and ordered the electrical service upgrade (necessary for the additional buildings and well) by personally pay- ing the $8,130.00 deposit for construction to the utility company, Grand Valley Power. He had wanted to wait until the well had successfully been drilled and water availability confirmed, but in light of the fact we will now be pushed to complete well and hookups by time our summer program starts, he did not want to have the electrical availability be an issue when needed. By placing faith in the Great Spirit and His desire for the ultimate success of our endeavor, Carl "took the plunge". Carl also reports that the end of the lane was extended over the creek to lessen the sharp turn that had been there. This was done at the request of the local fire chief so fire equipment could gain access if needed. Improvement of the ingress-egress lane was further a planning requirement placed on our Conditional Use Per- mit. An excavator placed (3)- 8ft sections of 3ft diameter concrete pipe in the creek as a culvert to create a passage over the creek thereby reducing the turn radius The cost of this was $5,895.00 which was also personally paid by Carl. Carl suggested "cattle guards" (a system of spaced pipes placed as a crossing in a roadway that cattle cannot go across) to eliminate opening and closing the gates at both ends of the lane when neighbor's cattle are in lane. Megan suggested we talk to the neighbor (Irvin Johnson) to see if repair of his fences parallel to the lane as well as adding gates in the fences could solve the problem. Carl and Megan to set up a meeting with neighbor. Faithist Seminary - Glenn Kendall: Glenn reports he talked about the prospect of a Seminary at Molina at some time in the fu- ture with Joan and Peter. They liked the idea. Glenn is going to con- tinue the effort with a "scholarly approach" initially by means of a paper establishing a Faithist "Theory of the Divine" with the Creator as God. He has prepared and submitted a paper on this theme as part of his PHD work. He has also grouped Faithists in four catego- ries as a part of this scholarly approach. Oahspe Sales- Carl Vostatek reported there were no sales this period. Old Business T-shirt Building Fund Fundraiser for next year's Conference. Whenever the logo motif is finalized, Carl reports the local shops are available for screen printing. He feels TMC staff should have t-shirts and caps as part of their "uniform" and should be available in time for the summer retreat as a fundraiser. New Business New edition of Oahspe, "Raymond A. Palmer Tribute Edition" As seen in a "UFO Digest" magazine article, a new edition of Oahspe has been printed (news to us!) and is available for sale and on Amazon.com. It had been mentioned on one of the forums and the secretary checked in to it. As a policy, it was decided that UFK formally contact the publisher of this and any future editions that may arise. A good synopsis of Newbrough and Oahpse was included on the book's website. Summer 2010 Annual Meeting Retreat Carl had received a request for information as to the date of this year's annual meeting. It was discussed what date would be preferred and the consensus was the summer solstice with early ar- rivals availability two weeks beforehand . It was further decided by consensus that as a UFK policy, we would hold the Annual Meeting each year at the "national headquarters" of UFK at Molina, CO. This would not preclude holding/ sponsoring meetings or confer- ences at other venues on other dates, but the main annual get- together would be summer solstice at Molina, something that mem- bers could permanently plan for. It was felt the power already built up and continuing to be developed at this location is essential for our success. Next meeting- February 28, 2010, 2:00pm MST. After a closing invocation by Glenn, with visualizations for success on various individual efforts for the project, meeting adjourned at 4:05 pm.
