About the Oahspe Wiki

Oahspe (1882, John Ballou Newbrough) is a public-domain spiritual text. The Oahspe Wiki exists to make it not just readable, but actively studied: every book and chapter is browsable here verse by verse, and anyone who registers can attach a cross-reference to another passage, or write an essay connecting a verse to history, doctrine, personal experience, or comparative study.

The wiki is not a side project

It is the research and editorial process for a forthcoming scholarly print Study Edition, modeled on the depth of a study Bible. What gets contributed and reviewed here is what ends up in that book. Nothing submitted is published or included automatically, everything goes through review first.

How review works

Every cross-reference and essay submitted for review is classified by Claude (Anthropic's AI) into one of six categories, before a human moderator ever sees it: textual, interpretive, historical, doctrinal, personal, or opinion. Submissions flagged as opinion or lacking clear textual basis are held for moderator attention before anything is published. This is a quality-control step, not a filter on who gets to contribute.

Roles

• Reader — the default. Full access to read everything, no login required for public pages.
• Contributor — what every new registration becomes automatically. Can submit cross-references and essays.
• Moderator — reviews and approves or rejects pending and flagged contributions.
• Admin — full access, including managing other users' roles.

How to contribute

1. Register an account (email/password or Google). You'll start as a Contributor immediately, no waiting period.
2. Browse to any chapter and highlight a word or phrase within a verse.
3. Choose to link it to another verse (a cross-reference, with an optional note explaining the connection), or write a new essay about it.
4. Track what you've submitted and its review status from your contributions dashboard.

Oahspe (1882) is in the public domain. No permission is needed to read, quote, or study it, that's exactly what this project is built to make easier.
