FINAL COMMENT
The changes l i s t e d for t h e two e d i t i o n s of OAHSPE show
that we cannot b e l i e v e Oa h s p e word for w o r d ; but must u s e the
intelligence that the Creator gave us t o study and interpret
the meanings of Oahspe 1n our own mind and not depend on
others for t h i s .
I d o n ' t doubt that much of t h e ma t e r i a l 1n t h e original
manuscript has been d e l e t e d or c h a nc e d ; but I f e e l that the
ba s i c light that Oahspe has given me would not be dimmed one
w h i t 1 f I could have the enjoyment of reading the o r i g i na l
draft as given t o Newbrough by the Angels of t h e C r ea t o r ,
It s e e m s t o me that F a i t h i s t s who r e s i d e in t h e larger
c i t i e s should check wth t h e i r local l i b ra r i e s and s e e 1f
c o p i e s of Oahspe or other books on Newbrough e x i s t ; and then
1f a copy of t h e 1 8 8 1 e d i t i o n ( w h i c h I am p o s i t i v e 1n my own
mind was the f i r s t e d i t i o n ) can be found, then a comparison
read1ng could be done 1n t h e 1brary and thus reduce t h e c o s t
of copying t h i s ma t e r i a l .
A l s o it would be i n t e r e s t i n g t o find other books w r i t t e n
by " i n s p i r a t i o n " d u r i ng t h e 1 8 8 O ' s . It would seem that the
light needed t o inspire Newbrough to w r i t e Oahspe would a l s o
a f f e c t others and cause some books of like nature t o be
w r i t t e n and t h i s could be in any part of the w o r l d .
N o doubt some o mm i s i o n s and errors w i l l be found by
u s e r s of t h i s compilation ( t w o were found w h i l e preparing
for p u b l i c a t i o n ) and I would l l k e t o hear from t h o s e who d o ,
or from any i n t e r e s t e d pa r t i e s ,
F r e d e r i c k C . Barker
