A WINDOW FOR THE LIGHT
by Frank Morley
KV 99 page 20
Meditation as a ameans of lifting the consciousness into a higher place has been know
ever since Man first came to this world of oiur. It has been practiced more in the Orient
than int eh west perhaps, but in recent years has bveen rediscovered amonth the English
speaking peoples, and we believe will again become part of the religion of the future.
There are two aspects to the subject which we might call the concrete and the
abstract. The concrete is best to begin with, and will gradually oead to the abstract.
Firstly, one must empty the mind of all thoughts that are negative, like anger, suspicion or
resentment. Then sitting quite upright,m breathing slowly and very deeply, mentally
keep repeating a sacred name, sucxh as OM or EOIH, or a simple phrase such as "peace,
peace, peace."
In the last issue of KV News we told you about the meditation wherein you could
find yourself in large garden or park. You look about you and see many kinds of flowers,
all colors and shapes and sizes. Now you may think about the symbolic meaning of the
flowers and the plantings of flowers. You begin to walk on a path through the garden,
and when you turn the corner of the path, there in the distance you see a temple shining
with Light. Look carefully at the temple. What is its color? What is the architecture?
Look at the entreance door. Does it have decorative work on it? Are there windows?
Are they colored? Are there pictures in the windows?
Then imagine yourselrf walking backwards to return to outward consciousness.
As time goes on, you will be able to go further and enter the temple, and you will want to
ask yourself to look carefully around inside the temple. What do you see there?
Finally, you will fina a teacher there. The teacher may eventually talk to you and
speak of the Creator.
In abstract meditation instead of having a picture in your mind, you think of a
quality or condition, li\ke courage or hope or faith, and keep asking yourself..."what does
this word mean to me?" What is the spsiritual aspect of it, and what would itr mean to
someone now living in the spiritual worlds? The higher the mind goes, the more it
changes in its views, its understanding. And you will find that as the mind goes higher,
You may change your mind about dearly held concepts.
Later on, you could combine these two forms, and begin to ask yourself, "What
are the higher spiritual worlds like?" >What is the substance of the forms there, and how
does the mind of a great angel affecdt their surroundings?"
Never try to rush the meditation process. It may take you months or more to
develop these meditations easily. At first, each session should not be longer than 10
minutes, and later on never more than half an hour.
