About the editing of OAHSPE
We have no plans to make any changes in OAHSPE, except the occasional
misspelled word in the 1 8 8 2 . . s u c h as First Book of God,XI1, 22 which is "tby" instead of
"thy". In checking back and forth between the 1882, the 1 8 9 1 , and the English Edition, I
have found that the English Editors caught many misspelled words . However, some years
ago I did write to Dorothy about a typo in the English Edition which I thought significant.
Plate 94.-ARC OF KOSMON, first line reads in 1 8 8 2 and 1 8 9 1 Editions..."Jehovih said:"
When the world approacheth dan'ha in Sabea,", and the English Edition says " . . . . d an' h a in
Mabea". I asked Dorothy which she felt was correct, and she said that the English Edition
must be a typographical error. There is one major oversight in the 1 8 8 2 and 1 8 9 1 which
the English Editors did catch. There is no heading for the text of the TABLET OF
EMPAGATU. We plan to make this portion read as you have it in the English Edition.
The long footnote mentoning the changes Newbrough made to "Books of the
Interlude" will be in the new edition. This is the note where Newbrough explains that the
word "Tae" has been changed to read "man" in numerous places. This is not in the
English Edition.
Indeed, there are things which seem misplaced. Your comments about verse 30 in
Voice of Manare well taken. And we would appreciate any other observations which you
have.
I do not know if you are aware ofit or not, but the typewriter which Newbrough
used had no lower case letters. This early typewriter had only upper case letters. This of
course did present problems in the preparation for publication, as each word had to be set
according to what Newbrough directed. One interesting note: It seems there are more
typographical errors in the 1 8 8 2 Edition in the Book of Wars than we have found
elsewhere. It is as if little or no proofreading was done on this book. Strange, for it has a
great deal of material which we need to understand.
The editing has long been of deep interest to those who live in Guatama. When I
first learned ofBook of Knowledgesome 45 years ago, I doubted that it was part of
OAHSPE. However, as we have looked into it, there is no question about the Book of
Knowledgehaving been part ofOAHSPE when it was given to Newbrough. The original
copy we have was made from the Lant proof sheets. The Lant proof sheets were made
from the very first plates which Lant and Newbrough worked on together. Then
Newbrough re-did large portions of OAHSPE, and the Lant proof sheets were never used.
From what we know of this, the first text given to Newbrough used many Panic words.
We know that Newbrough discarded this, and redid OAHSPE with the Panic words
replaced by English words.
Jim Dennon found that many passages from Book of Knowledgeare in OAHSPE,
scattered here and there. He documented a fine piece of research on this. Some years ago
when this was called to Charlotte Waterlow's attention she took a copy of Book of
Knowledge with her when she returned to England. Charlotte gave a copy of this to
Gretta James. I had a letter from Gretta, who found it hard to believe that Newbrough
had omitted a book he was given from OAHSPE when it was published. She expressed to
me she felt Book of Knowledge must be a hoax. But of course we know that it is not a
hoax.
To me, Book of Knowledge has deep esoteric meaning. One of the problems Zia a
has with the plan to publish the new edition the group is working on now is that Ziaa
would like to have Book of Knowledgeincluded in the new book. This is one of the
reasons she levels the charge of "cult" at us, for she feels that because that book was left
out ofOAHSPE, Newbrough was trying to hide something. We plan to publish a book
after OAHSPE is out (now we are calling it a companion book) to explain what we know
of the editing. I doubt that we will ever find the Book of Jaffethrwhich is referred to in
OAHSPE under one of the plates in the 1 8 8 2 Edition. As we have been working on
OAHSPE, I have begun to wonder if the pages at the end of the Book of Saphah starting
with: THE BASIS OF THE EZRA BIBLE (and including chapters titled)
AHURA'MAZDA,
BASIS OF VEDE, LORDS OF THE HOSTS IN HEAVEN,
EARTHLY HISTORY OF THE FAITHISTS OF THE EAST
may actually be part of material which Newbrough abridged to include in OAHSPE. Book
of Jajfeth could be the source of some of these "chapters" which do not seem to belong in
Book of Saphah, and seem somehow different from preceeding text in Saphah. We have
letters written in the 1890s which tell us that about half of Bon's Book of Praise was never
included in the 1 8 8 2 . In this same letter there is reference to material being left out of "one
book or another." Jim Dennon had been given a copy oftheBook of Zimmersalso
mentioned in the 1 8 8 2 Edition, but I have not seen it. We have some zimmers from the
source which gave us the Rites and Ceremonies used at Shalam. However, the zimmers
we have seen to lack something. I cannot help wondering if a word(s) or perhaps whole
lines or phrases were left out when they were written down -- to keep them secret. Those
singing or chanting the zimmers knew the missing parts, but they were unwritten.
We know, because Ziaa has told us, that unless we include Book of Knowledgein
the new edition we are working on that she will denounce us as a cult trying to hide this
information. She has included a photocopy ofBook of Knowledge in the book she is
selling for around $30 including shipping.
Ziaa wrote to me about a year and a half ago, and said that unless we changed the
name of the newsletter to "Cult Community Newsletter" she would destroy the newsletter.
I did not know how to answer her letter, and so never did answer.
Personally, I feel Ziaa should have the freedom to say what she will. However, I
do feel an obligation to make truth as we know it available to those who seek to know. I
have been told repeatedly that Ziaa speaks with great authority and forcefulness. This of
course does not make what she says true. Sometimes people call to ask me about a
certain point Ziaa has made to them. Usually I know the answer, and can give the source
to show that what Ziaa has said is not true. When these things come up I do try to include
this information in our newsletter, for I realize that for every person who contacts me
there are probably many more who do not feel comfortable asking.
We also wish to discuss the editing which was done, for Ziaa has given a very one
sided view of the editing. And we try to consider what others have said so that all can
give context and depth to what we print.

Extraterrestrial Visitations and Doe Newbrough
Dear Readers: Here is an item of information about D r . J . B . Newbrough
I did not know a b o u t . It was sent by an OAHSPE reader with questions
in CA. This excerpt is from EXTRATERRESTRIAL VISITATIONS FROM PRE
HISTORIC TIMES TO THE PRESENT by Jacquers Bergier, Regenery C o . , Chi
cago, I L . , C . ' 7 3 in U . S . A . , previously published in France. The sub
j e c t is ex t r a t e r r e s t r i al interventions today: "The Russian scientist
Tsiolkovsky, the father of astronautics, thought that in the twentieth
century interventions would be of a psychological order; in other
rds, that the Intelligences would intervene by telepathy. Interven
tions of this kind have been looked f o r , j u s t as they have been sought
in messages obtained by automatic writing from extraterrestrial sig
nals. do not consider it out of the question that someone will be
"I
able to succeed. I no longer consider it out of the question that
there have been people capable of unconsciously receiving telepathic
transmissions--among s u c h , Helen Blavatsky and Rudolph Steiner are
perhaps the b e s t known because of the religions they founded.
" I n d e e d , automatic writing could easily be the key; there have
been many amazing experiences with this s k i l l . Perhaps the most ex
traordinary case is that o f the American dentist John Nebrrough Bal
l o u , who was one of the first to experiment with laughing g a s . Ballou
found t h a t , under the influence of this g a s , he wrote automatically.
He then bought a machine that had j u s t been invented--a typewriter,
the third or fourth to have been manufactured in the United S t a t e s .
With it he wrote a book entitled OAHSPE, far ahead of the learning of
his time, and even clearly ahead of o u r s .
' I know of numerous cases o f this phenonemon t h a t I call "telepa
thy with the i n f i n i t e . " In a s t a t e of automatic w r it i n g , the subject
begins to wr i t e a veritable encyclopedia of known and unknown know-
l e d g e , a compilation that often s u r p a s s e s the level o f h u ma n i t y ' s
learning at the time it is w r i t t e n . . . . I am convinced that a certain
number of these encyclopedias are e i t h e r the result o f ex t r a t e r r e s t
rial interventions, or the unconscious reception o f a course in gal
a c t i c culture that was not intended for u s .
Now . . . he goes on to s a y : " . There is thus a kind o f involuntary
 intervention by e x t r a t e r r e s t r i a l b e i n g s . And when they realize this
perhaps they will send us devices so t h a t we can receive t h e s e ' c o u r s e s
I
in galactic c ul t u r e ' regularly, leading us 18
to progress a good deal
ore quickly than when science was the only source of information.
Fred Hoyle is absolutely convinced of this and believes in the immin
ent possibliity of our being entered in a sort of cultural telephone
book." --end of quote from Jacques,
